#MeTooEP: Website moet misbruik in EP blootleggen (Sceptr 25 October 2018)Een Franse parlementaire medewerkster heeft een blog opgericht over grensoverschrijdend seksueel gedrag in het Europees Parlement (EP). Op MeTooEP.com delen EP-medewerkers hun verhalen over aanranding of intimidatie. Het betreft veelal jonge vrouwen die vertellen over betastingen, foto’s die stiekem worden getrokken of andere intimidatie. Een aantal jonge mannelijke medewerkers doen echter ook hun verhaal. Een aantal van hen gingen met hun klachten naar hun meerdere, maar kregen geen reactie. “Pas nadat ik vijf minuten lang ‘stop’ zei vertrok hij”: ook Europees Parlement heeft #MeToo-probleem (De Morgen) Medewerkers hekelen cultuur van aanrandingen in blog. In het Europees Parlement blijken seksuele intimidatie en zelfs aanranding schering en inslag. Een groep medewerkers publiceert anonieme voorbeelden op een blog, in de hoop een cultuurwijziging te forceren.

“Tijdens een officiële missie besliste ik mijn Airbnb met een collega te delen. ‘s Nacht ging plots de deur open. Mijn collega kwam in zijn onderbroek binnen. Ik werd boos, wees hem de deur maar hij stormde op me af. Ik was zo bang dat ik me in een bolletje rolde. Desondanks viel hij me aan. Hij greep mijn borsten vast en deed mijn tepels pijn. Hij wreef zich daarna tegen me aan. Pas nadat ik vijf minuten lang ‘stop’ zei, vertrok hij.”

De medewerkster van het Europees Parlement, die deze aanranding door een collega meemaakte, diende al op 3 oktober 2017 klacht in bij haar meerderen. Ze wacht nog steeds op een antwoord.

Pannenkoeken

De vrouw is slechts een van velen met gelijkaardige verhalen. Op de blog ‘MeTooEP’ zijn enkelen van de duizenden EP-medewerkers begonnen met de publicatie van de anonieme, maar geverifieerde getuigenissen van seksuele intimidatie en aanranding door leidinggevenden uit allerlei fracties en ondersteunende diensten.

De slachtoffers zijn dikwijls jonge medewerkers, zoals een stagiaire die in december vorig jaar tijdens haar eerste werkdagen in een lift van het EP lastiggevallen werd door een oudere man. Hij benaderde haar oncomfortabel dicht en vroeg “of ik in zijn kamer zijn pannenkoeken wou komen proeven”.

Soms worden ook mannen lastiggevallen, zoals een stagiair die getuigde door een meerdere te zijn betast tijdens een avondje uit. “Hij stopte herhaaldelijk zijn hand onder mijn hemd om mijn huid te voelen. Ik zei niet geïnteresseerd te zijn.” Toen de jongeman onder druk toegaf om de dronken man in zijn hotel het extra bed te laten gebruiken, werd hij in zijn slaap aangerand.

Met de blog proberen de initiatiefnemers werk te maken van een resolutie waarin ze in oktober 2017 de eigen instelling opriepen tot maatregelen.

Die stemming kwam er nadat Jeanne Ponte, een Franse parlementair medewerkster en drijvende kracht achter de blog, in 2014 al een notaboekje presenteerde met 65 anonieme verhalen van slachtoffers.

“Sindsdien is er niets gebeurd en de klok tikt De volgende verkiezingen vinden plaats in mei 2019. Er is weinig tijd om de resolutie uit te voeren”, schrijft ze.

Concreet vragen de initiatiefnemers een externe audit die de omvang van het probleem in kaart brengt. “We willen geen heksenjacht, maar dit is de enige manier om transparante regels en een mentaliteitswijziging te krijgen.”

De medewerkers vragen ook een verplichte gedragstraining voor EP-leden en managers. “Omdat aanranding voortvloeit uit machtsmisbruik is het maar logisch dat mensen in hoge posities deelnemen aan zo’n cursus.”

De slachtoffers moeten ook medische vertrouwenspersonen krijgen, want zoals de aangerande jongeman getuigde op de blog: “behalve mijn vriendin vertelde ik het lange tijd aan niemand, omdat ik me schaamde.”

Abus au Parlement européen : “Mon collègue est entré dans ma chambre, en slip. Il s’est frotté à ma cuisse” (La Libre) Plusieurs personnes travaillant au sein du Parlement européen ont décidé de dénoncer les abus qui existent au sein de l’institution.
